Draw & pass: the telephone game with drawings

Like the telephone game, only with pictures. A sentence turns into a drawing, the drawing into a new sentence, and at the end every chain is revealed as an album. If you know Gartic Phone, you will feel right at home.

How to play

  1. Everyone starts a chain by writing a short sentence, for example "A penguin who is late for work".
  2. The chains move on. You get someone else's sentence and draw it. You only ever see the step right before yours.
  3. The next player sees only your drawing and describes it in words. Then the next one draws that description, and so on.
  4. When every chain has gone around, the host reveals the albums step by step. Watch the penguin turn into a bowling pin on a skateboard.

Three variants

Classic

Write, draw, describe, repeat. The original.

Knock-off

A drawing is shown for 7 seconds, then you redraw it from memory. Watch the details drift.

Complement

The first player scribbles a few lines, then everyone adds to the same drawing.

Scoring

There are no points. The fun is in the albums.

Settings

Speed (fast, normal, slow), a family friendly filter and album reveals at the host's pace. Drawings can be downloaded from the albums.

Tips

Questions and answers

Is this like Gartic Phone?

Yes, it plays like the telephone modes of Gartic Phone, in your browser, free and without ads. The variants are our own take.

Do I need a drawing tablet?

No. A finger on a phone works fine, and so does a mouse. There is a brush, fill, eraser, 18 colours and undo.

How long is a chain?

As long as there are players, with at least 3 and at most 12 steps. With 6 players every album has 6 steps.
