One Word: the cooperative clue game

Your teammate has to guess "Volcano". You write "Lava". So does someone else, and both clues vanish. One Word is a friendly game where the whole group plays together against the deck, and the best clue is the one nobody else thought of.

How to play

  1. Each turn one player is the guesser. Everyone else sees the secret word.
  2. Every helper writes a single one-word clue, without talking to the others.
  3. Identical clues and clues that give the word away are removed automatically. The team can remove more before the guesser sees them.
  4. The guesser sees the clues that are left and has one guess. Then the next player guesses the next word.

Scoring

Settings

Number of secret words (5 to 20), clue time and guess time.

Tips

Questions and answers

Is this like Just One?

Yes, it plays like the popular cooperative board game, adapted for the browser and free.

What counts as the same clue?

Clues that are identical or plurals of each other, like "dog" and "dogs". Similar words such as "horse" and "house" both stay, but the team can remove clues by hand.

How many players do we need?

At least 3: one guesser and two helpers. It is best with 4 to 8.
